Equine Assisted Therapy for Eating Disorders
Finding Your Way Back to Yourself
Eating disorders are not about food. At their core, they are about pain, control, self-worth, and a relationship with the self that has become complicated and difficult. Recovery is possible, and it often requires more than one path forward.
At Kindle Hill Foundation, we offer equine assisted therapy as a powerful complement to eating disorder treatment. Working with horses can help you reconnect with your body in a way that feels safe. You can acknowledge emotions that are hard to put into words, and build a new sense of trust in yourself.
Why Horses Can Help
Horses are deeply attuned to the body. They sense tension, emotion, and authentic presence. They do not judge. They have no expectations about how you should look or how much space you should take up. They simply respond to you, as you are, and they demonstrate the art of acceptance.
For individuals recovering from eating disorders, this kind of nonjudgmental connection can be profoundly healing. Horses naturally invite you into your body rather than away from it. They encourage presence, breath, and awareness without any pressure or criticism.
Work with our horses can support recovery by helping with:
Reconnecting with physical sensations in a gentle, grounded way
Building body trust and self-compassion
Identifying and expressing emotions that often drive disordered behaviors
Developing healthier ways to manage anxiety and distress
Strengthening a sense of identity and self-worth beyond appearance
Practicing setting boundaries and asking for what you need
A Complement to Your Treatment
Equine assisted therapy works best as part of a broader treatment plan. We are happy to collaborate with your existing treatment team, including therapists, dietitians, and medical providers, to ensure a coordinated and supportive approach to your care.
If you are looking for additional support alongside your current treatment, or if you are earlier in your journey and exploring options, we welcome the conversation.
Who This Program Is For
This program is open to adolescents and adults at any stage of recovery. Sessions are conducted one on one with a licensed therapist in a private, HIPAA-compliant setting. Every session is shaped around your goals and your comfort.
You do not need any experience with horses. You only need a willingness to show up.
A Gentle Beginning
Recovery is not a straight line, and healing takes courage. We approach this work with deep respect for how hard that journey can be.
We offer a complimentary 30-minute consultation so you can learn more about the program and ask any questions. There is no pressure and no obligation. We want you to feel informed and at ease.
If you are ready to explore what this could look like for you, we are here.
Sessions are private, HIPAA-compliant, and held by appointment at our farm in Blue Bell, Montgomery County, PA.
